Legend by Marie Lu - a video review

Legend by Marie Lu

Note: Yeah, I got the publication date wrong. Amazon strikes again. It's November of 2011. But I shouldn't have to mention the publication date since it's out. Actually, I think I'll start skipping that part. Apologies for jumping up and down again.

  1. Thanks for the vlog, Barney Stinson. I definitely thought Legend was fantastic - one of my favorites that I've read in months. Although... I didn't necessarily think Delirium or Divergent were full of BS - but that part did make me laugh a little :) I thought Legend ended with all kinds of loose ends, so I'll be eagerly awaiting book #2!

    1. Thank you for watching it (bad edits an all) Legend was Legen-wait for it-dary. I really enjoyed it.

I don't think there's a lot of BS in Delirium, I'm reading it right now and it is fairly well put together, but when it comes to designing a dystopian society I just can't get behind the government that decides to ban XYZ or does ZYX. When it makes little to no sense for them to.

I'm okay with loose ends in this book. I am looking forward to the next one!

  2. I really enjoyed "Legend" as well, but I felt like the characters were older than 15, which seemed to be a very young age set for them. I was a fan of the alternating perspectives.

I just finished "Article 5" yesterday and that book really reminded me of "Legend." I actually think I liked it more than "Legend," even though sometimes the main female character would do some really dumb things like run away from the boy she's escaping with, thereby messing up their escape plan schedule. (And I know from a previous video that dumb female characters piss you off.) I really liked the dystopian world of "Article 5", though, because it seemed realistic, as it really reminded me of Nazi Germany, and the romance was really well done.

    1. I thought the same thing reading through. I think it's because they don't have natural teenage impulses that most YA writers throw into their book: sabotaging an entire way of life just so they can hookup (think Across the Universe).

I've not heard of that. I can see on Goodreads how it would be like Legend. (and you are correct: though dumb characters piss me off in general).

  4. YES. You nailed it!!
I think I read this one with a smile on my face, which actually could be considered a little creepy at certain times during the book. It was just so darn well done.

    1. because i was so happy to be reading a book that was written so well with a big bad government and ruthless ruler, shouldn't necessarily have been happy about all the bad they were doing. but the book was just so good. some people jump when they do video blogs, other people smile while they're reading.

  5. Totally loved Legend too! I loved how much I came to care for the characters in this book...unlike in Across the Universe. :/ I actually just posted my review for Legend yesterday, if you want to check it out. :)

    1. Isn't it? It's the perfect amount of action, mystery, and romance. Damn it. I should've used that line in the video.

  7. Don't think we didn't notice that you inserted a title card in the video! And you say you can't edit.

    1. I can't. Honestly. My cat did this. She does great consulting work on the side too. Makes way more than me but can I get her to pay rent? No.

  8. Wow I just spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out what the title of a book is that I think you should read...it's The Pledge by Kimberly Derting. Thanks for your review on The Legend..I keep seeing it at Powell's and wondering if I should read it and now I know I need to! :)

    1. It's just Legend. It was very well liked last year (it was published in November but made a lot of year end "top of" lists--which is impressive).

  9. haha...well I felt it needed a THE in front of it since you did the whole joke about it being Legendary..which I admit I haven't heard in about 2 years so thanks for making me laugh. Hmm..I am not excited about this being a trilogy and having to wait though. I'm in the middle of TOO MANY series waiting for next books to come out.

    1. Is that show even still on? I have watched and loved the first five seasons but after that I kind of gave up.

There's a few series I might not return to (Cinder being one of them--I'm doing a Cinder review right now).

  10. YES! That's why I loved this book too! The future was actually realistic and Marie Lu did a great job with the world building. It was awesome. :)

And dang your voice is deep. O.O

    1. Thank you for the voice compliment? I think.

Yep. No silliness whatsoever. This is one series that I will be following up on.
